Black and Decker LM175 - Great Value For Small Yards

Black and Decker LM175

Black and Decker LM175

I live in Las Vegas where our yards in general are smaller than normal. Back in January of 2009 my gas lawn mower, that was several years old already, decided it was not going to work anymore. So I went to shop around and found the best priced mower at my local walmart store.

I purchased the Black and Decker electric mower model number LM175. I never owned an electric mower before and decided I'd give it a try. The LM175 was on sale for $120, and it sure passed the test. Having just a small 20 x 30 foot grass area that gets cut, the cord is not an issue for me and it's great not having to haul gasoline back and forth in my car for the other one anymore.

This Black and Decker mower cuts the grass well and for the price I think it was a great deal. I purchased it directly from the garden center, and assembled it in no time by myself at home. The best thing about my mower was the money I saved compared to what I could have spent on other mower brands. It's been over 2 years now and still no problems with my well priced electric mower.

Low Cost, No Gas, No Smell
by: Sara Gamble

I haven't had my lawn mower for that long. It is an 18 inch, green, electric mower (LM175) made by Black & Decker. I?m a rather small female, but I don?t have any problems mowing the lawn myself with this mower.

In my experience, I've struggled pushing some other lawn mowers. This mower was also rather inexpensive - you can plan on spending about $150 on it. This was a great plus for me, as I've seen other electric mowers for so much more than that.

My favorite feature about this lawn mower is that I do not need to yank a chain. This was also a problem for me, with other types of lawn mowers. For some I found that I had to wear myself out getting the machine to start. This mower has a simple off/on button!

Since it's not powered by gas I do not have to smell that awful odor, either. Nor do I have to worry about spilling gas on my driveway or lawn. These two things are really great for someone like me, and perhaps for anyone who wants to mow their lawn without a struggle.

There is a downside to this mower - it's plugged in. It does not come with a battery. My lawn is an acre, so I realize that it's not that large compared to others. It does the job for me, but even with a small yard the cord is still very difficult.

Luckily, my garage is set back so I can plug it in from there and get a lot of my lawn (I have trees, so my acre is not completely mow-able). If you're looking for an easy to push, start, and use lawn mower for a small yard at an inexpensive price, I really suggest this one! I'd give this mower a 4 out of 5, considering the above-mentioned power cord.

The LM175 Is A Smart Little Corded Electric Mower
by: Jessica Basler

Great little machine for modest yards. I own the Black & Decker 18-inch electric lawnmower, (Model LM175). We picked it up at Sears because we wanted something uncomplicated and inexpensive.

Two women handling the yard work at our house meant that we didn't want to wrestle with those starter pulls, and heavy machinery. This little lawnmower is easy to use, reliable, easy to clean and handle. The LM175 weighs around 40 pounds, but is easy to maneuver and get in and out of the garage.

We have a very hilly lawn, though small, so there are some challenges. What we love about the electric mower is that we never have to fight with it. The cord is something that some folks dislike watching out for: obviously you can't run over the cord! But I've gotten into the habit of pushing the mower with one hand and lifting the cord safely out of range with the other, very much the motion I use while running the vacuum indoors.

It's simple once you get into the habit and it's a small price to pay for the ease of using the electric model.

The down sides of the LM175 are few, as far as I'm concerned. It's not great for getting into tight corners or next to the fence. The blade radius isn't tremendous, so you have to do some edging to get next to the fence. You also need to move rather slowly at times to get a super clean cut.

But since I'm not setting speed records, it's easy enough for me to manage. I think we paid around $150.00 for this model at Sears. You can purchase a bag separately that will contain the grass clippings if you like. We don't have that much, so we have not bothered with that.

You can also pay more money and have a side outlet type version where the clippings shoot out the side instead of the back. I have not had any difficulty with the less expensive rear dispensing model. It's not messy at all, we just turn it over and sweep out the damp clippings before putting it away. It's a great mower for the money: hassle free and smell free.

Make sure you don't mind working with the reality of the electric cord when you work. If that's not a problem, you'll love this handy, easy, painless little mower.

Powerful 6.5 Amp Electric Mower And Lightweight Too
by: Susan Martin

I really like my Black & Decker LM175 18" Electric Mower. I've had it for about 3 years now and haven't had any problems with it. I needed a lightweight mower and something I could afford so I decided to check out a few places.

After hours of searching I went to Wal-Mart because the price was just a little bit cheaper than Sears. But don't be fooled, even though its lightweight the mower is really durable.

This baby can cut the grass and rough brush. I've rammed it into a few rocks but have never had any problems with it. The Black & Decker 6.5 Amp motor provides all the power it needs; I like the fact that it's electric too. I can just plug it in somewhere outside and go.

I mean who wants to mess around with gasoline right? Yuck! It works great for my small lawn here in Ramona, CA., where we need to be CARB compliant. The grass here is very dry so I don't need anything that's super heavy duty.

Although, I'd say the biggest draw back to the LM175 electric lawn mower is the fact that it has a long power cord. Moving that cord the entire time while I'm trying to mow the grass can be tough. Just keeping it away from the blades is a challenge.

I'm not a large woman and with my small frame I like the fact that it's easy to push. There's nothing worse than having a power struggle with a big machine at my age.

Again, really lightweight and I can get around my trees faster because it's super easy to maneuver. This Black and Decker mower has 3 blade settings so you can choose the height you want to cut your grass. For this desert climate I keep my mower at the first setting so it's closer to the ground for a nicer finish.

So, If you're looking for something easy to push that does a great job, then I recommend the Black & Decker LM175 18" electric lawn mower. Great for small to medium sized lawns.

Don't Like The Power Cord On My Black and Decker LM-175
by: Paula

I bought a Black and Decker LM-175, 6.5 amp, electric lawn mower last year. I’d just made up my mind to start mowing myself, instead of using a lawn service when I bought it.

I’d had bad experiences with traditional pull-start motors, so I knew I needed a small electric mower of some kind. The brands I really wanted to get were expensive, and I wasn’t sure at the time I started if I would keep mowing it myself or go back to a lawn service, so I chose the LM-175.

I picked it because it was a Black and Decker product and was economical at $139.99, from Amazon, with free shipping and handling included.

It’s a nice little mower for the price I paid, and it does a really great job on my small yard. It unpacked easily, needed minimal assembly, and I cut the lawn the day it arrived, without problems.

I mow front and back around once a week during the warmer parts of the year and around once a month during the winter. Both my lawns are around a combined area of 2000 square feet, and I can knock them both out in about an hour, without hurrying.

I’ve never had a problem with it not starting or doing its job. If you let your grass get too long, and it does clog up the side grass vent and the mower does cough and sputter a little, but I’ve never had a mower that didn’t do that.

I don’t like that it has an electrical cord, which took a while to get the hang of, but I do pretty well at working around this issue now. If they made a similar model with a rechargeable battery, I would be ecstatic.

I did replace the blade about a week ago, because it was getting dull, and I’d dinged it with stones in a couple of places, but as this was less than a twenty dollar expense, I didn’t mind.

Overall, I’m very happy with my Black and Decker LM-175; I'd highly recommend it to anyone with a smaller yard, who doesn’t want to spend a great deal and need a good little mower that does a quick, efficient cutting job without problems.
