Black and Decker Electric Mower - MM1800

Last summer I purchased a Black & Decker MM1800 lawn mower as a result of the failure of my last unit. Before setting out to purchase this particular model from Home Depot, I did some extensive research online and concluded that the advantages of an electric mower outweigh a gasoline mower.

This is especially true with the lack of noise associated with a electric unit and in addition, the lack of fumes that a gasoline unit emits. Here in Fort Washington, MD we are surrounded by grass and overgrowth in front of most properties, so I needed a mower that can cut the grass as well as weeds and similar overgrowth.

In the year I have owned this unit, no repairs or maintenance has ever been required and I am fully content with it. This particular unit features a 12-amp motor which gives the performance similar to that of a gasoline model. In the beginning, this mower was used exclusively on the large grassy areas, but after using it for a short while, it is hard not to build up confidence to use it on small garden areas. This is attributable to its virtually silent electric motor, and lack of weight.

Comparable to gas powered lawn mowers the electric is weightless and easily maneuverable. The only drawback, which in itself is not really a drawback, is that this particular unit is electric which means the use of a long electrical extension cord is to be expected.

However, this is a minor inconvenience considering the benefits that outweigh it. In conclusion, I would recommend the Black and Decker MM1800 to anyone in the market who is considering a new lawn mower, as this model is ideal for those who suffer from allergens associated with gasoline engines. In addition, to the aforementioned reason, this model is also a good fit for those individuals who are concerned about noise and environmental pollution.

I Hate The Hassle Of Gas Mowers
by: James Lofton

I have purchased Black and Decker's Lawn Hog MM1800 mower in April of 2005 from Home Depot. I previously owned a gas mower and wasn't too fond of it. The smell was annoying and pulling the cord to start ten or so times was even more annoying. I wanted to find something powerful enough to do the job without the nuisance of a gas mower like the gas, oil, tune-ups, noise, shaking that made my hands go numb.

I live in Brooklyn, NY and have a pretty decent sized yard. My grass grows very fast and thick and needs to be cut every 3 weeks during the warmer months. The mower comes pretty much assembled - all you need to do is attach the handle bar and the bag used to collect the grass.

It cuts the grass very cleanly, as long as you don't run over it and take your time. It doesn't damage your lawn sprouts as long as you set the height adjustment to the proper height. Adjusting the height is very easy and can be done with one finger tip. Since the mower is electric it has a power cord. The power cord gets in the way of your cutting sometimes but it is really easy to get used to and it's presence really isn't that big of a deal.

The mower is relatively lightweight compared to those heavy gas ones. It gets heavier as the grass fills up the bag and even then it's not that bad. Personally I really like this lawn mower. It's inexpensive and gets the job done with less hassle than the gas ones.

I had friends spend hundreds of dollars on those expensive riding mowers and have them break and ask me if they could borrow mine. This mower is lightweight, powerful, reliable and is really all you'll ever need as long as you take care of it.

Easy To Maintain And Quiet
by: Pauline Henson

I purchased my Black and Decker MM1800 lawn mower at The Home Depot during a large yearly sale. There were only a few left in stock so I purchased it for $150 (on sale) instead of the listed price of $199.99. My family and I have had the mower for one year and it has been phenomenal especially during the hot summer months in Texas where we live.

My husband and I use it every other week when we mow the lawn in the front and back of our house and it still works just as great as the first time we bought it.

The mower requires very little maintenance and that?s perfect for a family who doesn?t want to spend a lot of time doing upkeep to their tools.

One of the biggest reasons why we decided to purchase a Black & Decker lawn mower and why it was suggested to us by our family friends was because it is amazingly silent despite its large size. In our suburban neighborhood this was particularly important as it enables us to use the mower even at times that it would be considered inconvenient to the neighbors.

The biggest negative drawback to the lawn mower is definitely its size. The mower works perfectly for our front lawn that is perfectly square shaped. Our back yard however is in what most closely resembles a diamond and that makes it rather difficult for us to mow the yard especially in the small angular spaces as the machine is bulky and incapable of reaching said corners.

It was so large that we had to purchase a smaller string trimmer just so our grass could be even year round in the spaces our normal Black and Decker mower couldn?t reach.

Having said that, I would still recommend the product to anyone who is looking for an easy to use, reliable machine with little to no yearly upkeep and maintenance requirement.

Top Of The Line
by: Stephen Parker

I only use the absolute top of the line of lawn mowers. I use a Black and Decker MM1800 rear bag installation. It is not one of those fancy pants riding lawn mowers, but it gets the job done. There is something to be said about working up a good sweat behind a machine.

I have only recently acquired this metallic stallion, but it and I will soon have many days in the Sun. I bought it at the only place in town to buy any decent lawn equipment; it was Home Depot, of course. It was just like any other shopping trip. There is nothing fancy about buying a high quality machine. Just keep your eyes open, and you can do it too.

It's been about three months since I've had this machine, and it does everything I really want it to do. It works just fine for suburban home lawn care. However, it might be wise to save up for one of those riding machines if you are so inclined as to have a truly large and magnificent lawn.

All in all, the Black and Decker MM1800 is a decent machine for the conscientious homeowner.

MM1800 - Fast, Powerful, Electric And Less Than A Month Old
by: Thomas Mcdaniel

As a resident of Morristown, TN, I purchased the Black and Decker MM1800 18" electric mulching mower nearly a month ago from an offline Target Supercenter. I must say that I have yet to receive any problems from this high-powered machine!

This electric lawn mower is very powerful and moves at a very fast speed across the yard. I use this lawn mower at least three times a week with multiple lawns that I own. It has a very powerful electric motor and that allows me to mow without the fuel it requires from a gas-powered mower.

The MM1800 has a 12-amp motor that allows for some serious mulching. I really enjoy using this lawn mower to mulch and mow my yard. It has a very sharp blade that results in excellent cutting. I never have to go over the same place again!

This Black and Decker lawn mower works best when it is on a flat mowing surface. I have had several problems with horsepower when mowing up a hill on one of my properties. It works best for smaller homes in need of a quick-fix manicure to the lawn.

I have used this mower for less than a month, and can testify that my yard looks three times as good as it did before with my former lawn mower. It is fast, powerful, and very easy to use without any problems so far.

Because I do not like wasting time, I looked for a mower that would cut the grass in the fastest time possible. I found it in this model. It takes only thirty minutes to an hour to mow my front lawn and even shorter time on the back yard. The only drawback of this mower is that it cost about $200.00 - a deal that I would be willing to pay for a well-manicured and immaculately cut lawn.

Not As Quiet As You Think
by: Helen Henson

I had the Black and Decker MM1800 Rear Bag Mulching Mower. I found that it was a great mower. It worked best on flat surfaces and it gave me trouble when I was on a dirty area. It was supposed to have a quite motor, but it seemed to be really loud, even when the description said it was not that loud.

I found that it was a little harder for me to mow the grass, than for my husband to do it, because he is stronger than me. It did have a little bit of a push to it, but I find that you needed to push it more than it pulled itself.

I did like how the bag made mulch for my garden, but it did seem to fill up very fast. I lived in Piscataway, New Jersey when we owned this model, now we live in Hawaii and I do not have this machine with me anymore.

We actually pay to get our lawn mowed. It is so much easier on us.
