Black & Decker SPCM1936

I use a Black & Decker mower, model SPCM1936, bought online. Additionally, I live in Columbia, South Carolina on a relatively small property. I bought this mower expecting to get something dependable, versatile, and environmentally clean, and in that regard I feel that this mower fits the bill exactly.

I surprised myself when I bought a cordless electric mower, especially considering that my last mower was massive, very old, and a gas guzzler. It nearly took half my strength to pull it from its hiding place in the garage!

While this mower isn't exactly a lightweight itself, it does self-propel, which makes a heck of a difference when you're out in the hot afternoon sun. The battery life on this mower is not as great as I expected. If your lawn is small enough to be mowed in roughly twenty minutes or less, this mower is for you. Otherwise, it will stop working about half-way through.

You DO have the option of changing the battery, but I find that to be a huge hassle. When I get to working, to suddenly have to stop and change something silly like a battery makes me crazy. Heaven forbid your other batteries don't have any power left in them, either--it'll take almost a day to have them charge up again!

Despite these flaws, I have used this mower roughly 4 times since I bought it less than a month ago, and I'm still very content with my purchase. So long as your lawn is small (and flat) enough, this mower will be great.

Black And Decker SPCM1936
by: Bethany J. Moss

The mower I currently have is a Black and Decker cordless electric lawn mower. I've got the 19-inch, 36-volt variety, and I'm really very happy with it. My previous mower was also electric, but it wasn't cordless, and while I loved the way it worked I was constantly battling the cord and trying not to tie up every tree in my yard.

Now I detach it from the charger and I'm good to go. I live in upstate New York and the grass grows like crazy here because it rains so frequently. Luckily, this mower can hack it! (No pun intended.) One charge lasts me long enough to mow my entire lawn, which is about half an acre in size.

I've also been really impressed with how quiet the mower is; it makes more of a whirring noise than the loud roar caused by gas mowers. While the lawn mower itself is quite heavy, it's self-propelled and I haven't had an issue pushing it up and down the hills in my yard. I've had the SPCM1936 model for several months now and haven't had a single problem with it. I purchased it at my local Lowes, and they said if it gives me any trouble to bring it back in and they'll help me fix it ASAP.

I've had great results with their customer service department in the past, so I don't worry much about it. If I had a larger yard, or one with fewer bushes, I would probably invest in a riding mower. However, if you've got a reasonably-sized, suburban lawn that needs regular mowing, this lawn mower is an excellent decision, even with the $500 price tag. I was hesitant at first, but I'm really glad I got this Black And Decker SPCM1936 lawn mower. It's more eco-friendly than a gas mower, a lot quieter, and significantly easier to use. All my neighbors keep asking to borrow mine; I keep trying to convince them to get their own!

The SPCM1936 Is A Well Made Electric Mower
by: Charles Reyes

I purchased the Black and Decker SPCM1936 self-propelled 36 volt lawn mower from Black and Decker (website) to use on my home lawn and backyard in November 2011. The setup is fairly simply to follow using the instruction manual.

The lawn mower itself is well-made and looks great. There is no hassle in starting up the SPCM1936. Before I use the lawn mower, I charge the battery detached from the lawn mower for about 8 hours. That charge allows me to cut my "average sized suburban home" front and backyard.

The battery also has an indicator that you press to see how much power you have left. This lawn mower is great, not only is it easy to use, its quiet, a breeze to push (if you don’t want to use the self-propelled feature), and better for the environment than gas lawn mowers. If you are worried that this might be too heavy or bulky to use, that’s not the case here.

It is really convenient for storage because the handle folds down taking up less space during storage. The lawn mower also has a mulch feature as well as a lever to customize the height of the cut. The self-propelled feature is wonderful. It has various speeds, but I find that the slowest speed option is already as if you were about to speed walk.

I have explained many wonderful features of the Black and Decker SPCM1936, and like most appliances, electronics, other goods, there are the cons I personally have experienced with this lawn mower.

One problem I had with this lawn mower is that if you are someone who procrastinates to cut your lawn and sometimes waits 3-4 weeks to cut your lawn, you will have trouble cutting the grass in one run. I have noticed that if the grass is too high, the lawn mower will work best if the adjusted height is at a higher point than what I like my lawn to be cut to.

This meaning, if I want my lawn to be cut to 2 inches, I will need to cut the tall grass down to around 4 to 5 inches first and then go over the grass again with the lawn mower set at 2 inches. If I try to go and cut the grass to 2 inches in one run, the lawn mower begins to struggle and it powers off which I have read in the manual it is because it is being over-worked and the manual recommends to wait a moment and then start it up again. This will also drain the battery extremely fast.

The other issue I have with the SPCM1936 is that it doesn’t do a great job at collecting the freshly cut grass into the rear grass-bag.

The Black and Decker SPCM1936 is a great lawn mower that is perfect for a suburban type lawn and backyard. I recommend this SPCM1936 mower for people who own average suburban lawns if you plan on only owning a single battery. If you plan on getting an extra battery then it would be great for bigger lawns since the battery is detachable, which is a great feature for swapping batteries and charging the battery.

Overall, I am pleased with the SPCM1936 and would rate it a 4 out of 5 stars.
