Crafstman 37067 Self Propelled Lawn Mower

Last summer I purchased my first Craftsman 22" lawn mower from our local Sears store here in Hartford, Connecticut on the good advice of my father in law. His advice was to purchase from Sears because of their good reputation, and their ability to provide excellent warranties on all lawn care products they sell.

I purchased the Craftsman 22" Self-Propelled (Rear Bag), Model Number 37067, mower at a reasonable cost of roughly $270.00 with an extended warranty plan to cover any unforeseen mishaps to the product. This was my first lawn mower for my average sized lawn, so I wasn’t expecting too much, but the Sears salesman said that I would be greatly impressed by its abilities.

There are several things that I believe make this product one of the best lawn mowers on the market. First, I believe that the Craftsman brand is top-notch, and is well-known for its ability to provide its customers with extensive warranties and excellent customer service.

Secondly, I was also impressed by the inclusion of the powerful Platinum 700 series Briggs & Stratton Engine, with 7 pounds of torque. This engine is an amazing asset to any machine, let alone a lawn mower. The engine is able to power through even the toughest, thickest, and wettest grass that I have been able to put it through. I have not experienced any stutters, shudders, or failures to start, which makes this an efficient machine.

Third, I was skeptical about the size and material of the discharge bag, but I can say that I was pleasantly surprised. My yard is roughly 5,000 square feet, and I can usually get by with only emptying the bag 1-2 times before I’m done (depending how long I let it grow, how wet the grass is, etc.). I was not only impressed by the bags size, but the ability for the bag to limit the expulsion of dirt and dust through the bagging material. It does a surprisingly good job of holding everything in.

There are only a couple things that I didn’t like about, however. First, the rough and tough engine slurps through gas like nobody’s business. I usually mow my lawn once a week in the spring time, and usually once every two weeks in the summer, so I tend to do it more often than most people which means that I fill up more often as well.

Gasoline is now $4.10 here in Connecticut, so I’m a little worried about that aspect of it. I also don’t like the fact that the lawn mower is close to 95 pounds. It is extremely heavy (which translates also to heavy duty I realize), but it can be a beast to move in and out of tight spaces, especially if the variable speed control is engaged.

Overall, I think that this is a great lawn mower for a medium sized lawn and for an owner who is willing to wait a couple extra days to cut their grass. The variable speeds, pro-grade motor, and excellent discharge bag, make it a must have for any homeowner looking to do quick work of a messy lawn. It can be purchased in most Sears stores across the country, with and without an extended warranty, and comes with a Craftsman warranty that can’t be beat.
