Craftsman DYS 4500 Lawn Tractor Riding Mower

(Seattle Washington)

I have a Craftsman DYS 4500 riding lawn mower, I purchased it at the Sears department store in Seattle Washington about two years ago. It is known as one of the higher end riding lawn mowers, yet it is reasonably priced. I really love this lawn mower as it gets the job done and it does it awesome.

I originally chose this one because some areas of my yard are steep and have small hills in them and most riding mowers do not do very well with them. I was told by the sales person that the DYS 4500 model would do the job and it does. It is a very easy mower to understand, one foot pedal propels and reverses the mower in a very easy fashion and the automatic transmission makes for a very smooth ride. It also includes cruise control which I find really nice because my yard is quite big.

I rate it a five out of five on the comfort level, the seat is very good for long rides nice and cushy. It has several different heights that you can cut your lawn at, which is handy for different seasons, and for the hilly and steep areas in my lawn.

It has a wide turning radius of 16" mainly due to its large cutting deck. This mower is a very tough and durable machine - I have run over some very large rocks and they have never even chipped the blade. I also love how quite this mower is, on most mowers you can hear it 3 blocks away, this one on the other hand you can barely hear inside of the house.

The craftsman DYS 4500 also doubles as a snow remover which is great because you get your moneys worth all year round. The only real drawback that I have noticed is that it is a bit slower than most mowers so it takes a little longer to get around the yard and you cannot tow things about with it, but it does what it says - it mows your lawn and it does a darn good job at it.

I would say that this lawn mower is best for medium sized yards - if you have a large lawn you may want to purchase something that is a bit faster and has a bigger motor in it .

Craftsman 4500 Yard Tractor With Kohler Engine
by: Mario Pegram

I bought this lawn mower for $1400 at the store called Sears. I use it for my 0.6 acre lawn and it does wonders. I hardly had any problems with this lawn tractor. It cuts grass like butter. I can adjust the setting of how high or short I want to cut the grass.

I can also adjust the setting of the seat on how I want to adjust the height and angle of the seat. It is very easy to adjust the seat. I love the safety features of this lawn mower.

I also love the handling of this Craftsman mower, it turns and maneuvers well. I never had any trouble with the handling of this machine. I like how I can adjust the speed of the lawn mower and that it is not fixed. I can choose to mow at a slow or fast speed. It can go pretty fast about ten to fifteen miles per hour If I desired.

The only things I dislike about this tractor mower is it jams every now and then when the grass is being sucked into the compartment.

The blades also jam every once in a while if you don't replace the blades from over use. You change the blades depending on how often you use this lawn mower. The Blades would cost 40-65 dollars for one. I change the blades ever six months and when I do its a pain in the butt to spend money.

So when buying this 54" lawn tractor from Craftsman, be aware that you are paying more than the the base price with the price of gas and the price of replacing the blades. But overall this is a great yard mower. Machines cant be perfect.

It will mow a lot faster than your traditional hand push mowers. It is as easy to operate as driving a car, you wont be disappointed. I bought the Craftsman 4500 several years ago and I still use it today. It is best for lawns of all sizes but not to reach tight areas. One cool thing I have to mention about this lawn mower is I could take the grass cutting device and replace with a snow plow!

Sears Has Turned Into A Junk Store Selling The Craftsman DYS 4500
by: Dan Fontaine

What's bad about my Craftsman DYS 4500 Tractor OK: The 48inch deck is a absolute piece of junk. CHEEP THIN METAL mounting brackets have broken for the second time, at the same place, the poorly welded super thin attachment points.

Poorest cutting mower I have ever owned. THIS MOWER RATES "A BLUE LIGHT SPECIAL AWARD"!!!! I have purchased most of my tools at Sears since 1969, I relied on products that were always quality made. Never thought much of K Mart. Apparently they (K Mart) have turned Sears into a junk store.
