Husqvarna Lawn Tractor YTH2242

My husband bought a Husqvarna YTH2242 lawn mower in March 2009 and he’s been using it since then. It has been consistent and has not given us any problems. He thought at first of buying a zero turn mower but a tractor is much better for pulling the garden cart and for mowing the lawn.

It has a hydro-static drive with no gear shift which is easier to control the tractor. Also, there is a slight hill in the yard and a tractor would work better. The company where he bought it is just near our residence and they have a service department if needed including pickup and delivery.

Our lawn is probably about one half acre and he would mow once a week and as needed during the winter. It is very convenient to use and we are completely satisfied with our purchase. My husband is able to do most maintenance and we have not needed the service department yet.

The Mower Deck Let Me Down
by: Daniel K. Taylor

I live in Northern Michigan, in a rural area. I have used Husqvarna riding lawn mowers over the past ten years to mow an approximate two acre parcel of land. The area is fairly flat, and is composed of a few trees, with sandy soil under the grass that is present.

My current Husqvarna riding mower starts and runs very well. I have never had any problems or issues with the tractor. It was bought new from a local dealership. The mower deck is 54" in width. Over the first three to four years the mower deck worked without any visible flaws except that it would need the mower blades replaced every two to three months.

After the fourth year, which coincided with the warranty ending, holes began to appear in the sides and top of the mower deck sheeting. This past year after numerous repairs being welded to the mower deck, I was forced to buy a new replacement deck. Husqvarna would not warranty the old mower deck or even give a discount on a new one. After speaking to the local dealership I was informed that their sheet metal was not as thick as others, and this would cause holes to be 'sandblasted' in the sides of the deck from sand being picked up while mowing.

Husqvarna has a very reliable tractor and engine, but there should have been more energy and care placed in the mower decks.
