My life as a John Deere fan started in the early 80's with the purchase of a John Deere 650 tractor. I believe it was built by Yanmar for JD but I still have it. It has cost a head light and a set of break shoes in the last 30 years but other than that no problems.
After the purchase of that machine I became a devout John Deere fan. Next came a 55V chainsaw (Echo but Deere put their name on it so I trusted it) a weed eater and then a pole saw (both Echo but bore John Deere brand).
Then I bought a LX 176 lawn tractor with "K" Series engine shortly before they started painting MTD lawn mowers green and yellow and putting their name on it.
For $3200 I got a plastic hood that fell off and a machine which became a constant maintenance problem and not worth the sales tax we paid for it.
I just purchased a zero turn mower from Gravely. Sadly in times past that would never have happened on our property but it's a decision John Deere made not me. Hopefully their profit on a poorly built LX 176 was sufficent to replace a loyal customer.
