I have a John Deere BG20574 lawn mower, (John Deere 22" Self-Propelled Push Mower), and I love it! I'm in Downsville, NY, and it works perfect for my type of grass. I think that the pulls are easy, and it is easily propelled. One of the only cons about it is the small basket size. I wish it was just a little bit bigger.
I bought this lawn mower from Lowes (Online). Even though I have a large garden, I think this mower would work best for small gardens or yards. Mainly because of the small basket size, but that's to be expected because the mower itself is pretty small and easy to store.
It has a solid side discharge with good throw as well as a good mulching ability. It rocks in composting grasses. It’s very easy to assemble, its only putting on bag and tightening bolts. The mower cuts great and you must set deck height first. I have had several self propelled mowers over the years. The last one was a lawn boy self pace. This mower blows that one away right out of the box.
It started the first time, every time even on a half pull. Plenty of torque to pick up grass and those pesky water oak leaves (Hate those). The front wheel drive was a downside to the purchase but once I got used to it, it worked well. It would wheel spin until I figured out to start out either nice and smooth or push a foot in neutral and engage the transmission. This is the lightest self propelled mower I’ve owned. All in all, I think that the mower is great. It’s light, easy to use, easy to propel, and again, the only con I can think of is the small basket!
