John Deere Select Series X500 Multi Terrain Tractor With 48" Deck

We bought our new 2010 John Deere X500 in June 2010 for Father's Day, and we couldn't be happier. Previously, my family owned a series of push/walk behind mowers, which makes mowing the lawn a real chore. Now, even my daughters were willing to give mowing the lawn a try, since it is almost effortless.

It is such a nice change to ride on the mower, and let the big engine push around the mower and not you. The 25HP V-twin engine is great for my yard, which is mostly flat so I have no huge hills to climb or anything like that. I also have no problem making tight turns thanks to the locking differential, and speed controls.

I usually mow the lawn on speed setting 1 or 2, but sometimes you come close to throwing yourself off the tractor if you're moving too fast. The deck we choose is 48 inches wide because we needed the tractor to fit through the gate in our fence, which it does by a few inches.

One downside is when the grass is wet, it does sometimes get clogged in the shoot, so maybe a 3 blade system would help here. I am just an average Joe cutting my lawn on the weekends so overall it works great for me.

I haven't busted it out in the winter yet, because a friend usually plows the driveway for us, and we have a snowblower. However, I am interested in seeing what this bad boy can do. From other reviews I read online the tractor does a great job clearing the snow.

Also, some other attachments I've been looking at are the tow-behind 17P Poly Cart so I can haul more mulch and dirt around the yard, and maybe the 54-in. Tractor Shovel, which would probably make snow removal no problem. Overall this a great tractor hands down. I am very happy with our purchase, and will always buy John Deere from here on out.
