Lawn Boy 10640 Self Propelled Push Mower

My Lawn Boy 10640Walk-Behind Rotary Mowers) is awesome. I live in sunny Florida where the grass grows an inch a day, no kidding. In the summer you have to cut the grass twice a week, with all the rain the grass grows like weeds. I was in search of a mower that could keep up with the work load. And not break my back by the end of the day.

I purchased a 20" Lawn Boy over five years ago, online from Amazon.com at a great price. Its a model 10640 , self propelled push mower. I have one acre of property, kind of a lot to mow with a push mower I know. But my Lawn Boy makes it so easy, it glides along with you with hardly any effort on my part. A true self propelled mower that works like it claims it works.

I have had to have the belt changed once, it was a minimal cost. Under twenty dollars. I can get the acre done in under two hours with my Lawn Boy mower. I have owned many mowers in my life, none have performed with the easy and dependability of this mower. And they all had many more repair costs at the five year mark. The cost and dependability are what's most important to me in mowers.

Lawn Boy has proven to me that for property one acre and under, the model 20" 10640 is the way to go. I refuse to break my back pushing a mower that claims its self propelled when it doesn't work properly. This is not one of those machines. It would be wonderful if they let you test drive push mowers. I am very happy with the purchase of my lawn mower, and almost everyone in my family owns one now. Due to my high praise, and by the look of my yard.

Comes With Oil And Easy To Start
by: Raymond Peery

In April of 2009 I purchased the first home I've owned in 20 years that I had to actually cut my own grass. While at Home Depot purchasing all the items a new home owner needs I ask for their recommendation for "reasonably priced" lawn mowers. They recommended a Lawn Boy model 10640 20-inch mower. Priced at $229.95, plus a 10% discount for being retired military, it was right in line with my budget.

I didn't get around to putting it together for three weeks, having a new house put other demands on my time. When I finally got to it I was surprised at how easy the process was. Right out of the box, just simple hand tools and 15 minutes of my time it was ready to go.

I added oil I had purchased, since I didn't know that Lawn Boy includes oil with the mower. Filled the gas tank, pulled the cord and the mower started on the second pull. I didn't have to mess around with priming the engine, it just fired right up!

A lot different than my lawn care memories from the '80s. My half-acre yard was a jungle after several weeks of rain so I was expecting my first attempt at cutting it to be a nightmare. My first pass over the yard with the mower at its highest height setting was not near as difficult as I expected it to be.

I ended up with a fair amount of clippings since the grass was pretty damp, bordering on wet, when I cut it. I waited three days to let the yard dry out and made a second pass over the lawn with the mower set at its lowest setting.

Cutting dry grass was so much easier than the wet grass from the previous weekend and the results were much better. The mower mulched the grass to the point where it you would have never known the grass was six inches tall just four days before.

So jump forward to April 2011 - I've owned this mower for two-years and have zero complaints! Last spring, 2010, I took it to a local lawn care center to have it serviced. The tech pulled the spark plug, check the oil and and informed me that the only thing my mower needed was to have the blade sharpened. Something that I had never even considered as a required maintenance item. Total bill for the service check? $15.00, including $9.95 for a lawn mower blade sharpener that attaches to my cordless drill.

The bill for my 2011 service check? $6.99 for a Briggs & Stratton brand spark plug, they even checked the gap and installed it at no charge. To anyone looking for an inexpensive, gas-powered mower, that is well constructed and reliable the Lawn Boy 10640 is your mower.
