I purchased this Murray riding lawn mower twelve years ago, used, from a relative. The best part about this mower is the durability. My yard is very rough and uneven so the durability of a mower is of great importance to me!
I have used this mower for twelve years with very few problems. I have even used this mower to mow the steep side hill next to my home and it has never let me down.
I would not recommend this mower to someone with a very large lawn because of the small motor and cutting area, but for my lawn (which is about 1/4 of an acre) this mower performed great! Despite the rough terrain on which I mow, this mower always provided a nice straight cut.
Backed by a Briggs and Stratton engine, this machine was virtually indestructible. The best points about the mower are as follows: Durability, cost, ease of use, and low maintenance.
The only major problem that I ever had with the mower developed about 10 years after I purchased it. After shutting the mower off to take a break, it would not start again when I returned. After taking off the manifold cover on the front of the engine I noticed that the valve seat had come loose, thus causing the valve to be stuck open.
It was a very easy fix however, a four dollar valve seat was ordered from Briggs & Stratton and a couple minutes to put the valve in place and the problem was solved.
The only bad points about this mower are as follows: small engine size (does not do very well in very heavy or thick/coarse grass, small cutting area (takes longer to mow a large area).
I would not hesitate at all to recommend a Murray riding lawn mower to anyone or to purchase another for myself. I hope this review has been helpful.
