Review Of Dixie Chopper Silver Eagle 2760HP Riding Mower

I purchased a Dixie Chopper Silver Eagle 2760HP zero-turn lawn mower in 2008 and am going into my 4th mowing season with it. When I was in the market for a zero turn, I compared all the popular models. I chose the Dixie Chopper because it had the best features and most power.
I found a local retailer near New Orleans and purchased it in the store, not online. I wanted a 60" cut mower, because we have over 6 acres of grass that needs maintenance and I did not want it to be a two day job.
The 2760HP is hands down the mower for this type of task. It has a Generac motor that is gas powered and puts out around 27 horsepower. The deck is heavy gauge steel and the body panels are true stainless (eliminating unsightly paint chips from wear and tear). The frame is welded 2x2 tube 7 gauge formed steel.
My model has the option of an electric deck; therefore, it can be raised or lowered to a specific cut height with the touch of a switch. This beats heavy levers and pedals! The seat has armrests and is sufficiently padded for long work days. There is even a cup holder. Additionally, the seat and floor board both tilt forward allowing access to the hydraulic pumps, engine components, belts and pulleys.
Dixie Chopper touts their mowers as "The World’s Fastest Lawnmower". I believe that statement just may be true. I have cut my entire six acres in under an hour and a half. The 2760HP has the ability to cut sufficiently at 12mph! This mower is best for large lawns and leaves a "fairway" appearance on your green. The deck has 3 blades and they are super strong. I did not have to change out the blades until well into my 3rd year of use.
In addition, this mower is easy to use in small confined areas of lawn. The zero-turn functionality of it allows effortless and precise maneuverability. This is largely due to the turf tires that are standard on the unit. The rear tires are Turf Master 24x12x12. These are really wide and the tread pattern is sporty, rather than knobby, allowing the mower to traverse landscape without causing divots.
The front tires are 13x6.5x6, smooth surfaced and rotate on casters. The casters, as well as several other moving parts of the unit, are outfitted with grease fittings for routine lube maintenance. When it comes to good vs. bad, I am a strong advocate for the pros outweighing the cons on the Dixie Chopper.
This mower is everything anyone could want in a piece of lawn equipment. It is built tough and American Made. It is also a product that is built to last. I have had no problems with it and have performed minor routine maintenance (oil changes, lubes, fluid changes) with ease. The only glitches I have found in owning this unit are it uses a good bit of fuel in operation and it requires a floor jack be used to elevate the unit high enough for cleaning and blade changes. Those two items are things I can live with, knowing that I have a quality product that gets the job done flawlessly.
