Scotts 14" Reel Mower - 304014S

My Scotts 304-14S Reel Mower brings back the old days when mowers where mowers. There were no cords or fuel tanks just a simple mower. I bought my Scotts Lawn Mower at Home Depot in Mountain Home Arkansas. Although this was a great reel mower it did have a few down falls.

This unique product from Scotts uses manual pushing power which uses no fuel or electricity. When my husband bought it we both thought it would be a great mower. But, actually it had more bad points than it did good.

It did not perform well on tall patches of grass at all. When we took it through small patches of grass the grass constantly was getting stuck in the blades and caused them to jam. Also if there were any sticks in the yard they would also become jammed. We also found this mower to be heavier than some of the other models that were available.

This was a major drawback because my husband has a serious back condition and his weight limit is less than the mower weighs. We owned this mower for about two weeks and decided that it was not the mower for us. However, if you own a small yard and your grass does not get very tall then this just might be the mower for you.

As for the good parts of this mower it was easy to put together and didn’t require long instructions and tons of tools. It was also fairly easy to move until we reached the grass. This lawn mower does do what it promises when it states that it is eco-friendly which was a major point for purchasing it.

Green, Good Value And Easy To Use - But No Bag
by: Alesha M. Russell

Scotts 14in reel mower, retails for $79.99 at Home Depot. This mower is a decent reel-type mower, which means it has no engine but turning blades and it goes strictly by human power.

A person pushes the reel mower and this turns a Heat-Treated blade which cuts the grass. These are often referred to as 'old-fashioned' mowers because they do not use gasoline or electricity to run an engine.

This type of mower is fine for a small yard, but it would not do with with a large piece of land or one that has a lot of thick grass or difficult terrain.

It is ideal for people who have a small yard or courtyard area with grass. The Scott's 14" is perfect for this - and it doesn't require a great deal of know-how about engines, oil, gasoline or repairs.

I got mine online at Home Depot and use it in a tiny mobile home lot that a home I own sits on. It does quite well for this size yard. It seems strange to some, I know, to get a reel mower, but I really didn't know much about engines except that they do pollute and this type of mower is really basic and eco-friendly.

I live in Gainesville, Florida and the weather is hot and humid and it rains a fair amount. I would say that this reel mower works less well if the grass is very wet, but I find that is true of most mowers - whether they are a reel or engine push mower or a riding mower - also struggle with wet grass.

This 304-14S model does not have a grass catcher, but there are more expensive models that do have grass catchers. If I had to do it again, I would have spent a little more and obtained the grass catcher because I compost my yard waste for my garden.

But, all in all this is a good mower, well manufactured and durable, that gets the job done and doesn't pollute or require a huge amount of technical know-how. I would definitely recommend it for people who have small yards, not a lot of difficult terrain and who are interested in getting exercise and keeping things 'green'.
