Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog

Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog

I have a Black and Decker MM875 electric mower. It has a 19 inch cut and a 12 Amp motor. It also mulchs the grass clippings. I bought it last year. I had to buy a new lawn mower because my husband moved out. I could not push the lawn mower he used. I also had a hard time starting his lawn mower.

I went to Sears because I know they carry reliable brands. I went directly to the Black and Decker section. I know from experience that Black and Decker products last a long time. The first thing that attracted me to the lawn mower I purchased was that it was electric. Being electric meant no gas, no oil and no oil changes and easy to start. This seemed perfect for me and then I saw It was 52 pounds which is even more perfect because that is what I can handle. I like it a lot. It works great.

I have not had any problems with it. It is easy to maneuver and it is not smelly at all. My yard is medium sized with several trees a garden and a fence. It does a close shave in all the tight spots. This is a great mower. I think it is great for small and medium yards. For large and extra large yards I think you need gas powered self-propelled or riding lawn mower.

The Lawn Hog MM875 Was A Good Buy
by: H Smart

The Black and Decker Lawn Hog MM875 was a great purchase. I bought it online at Amazon.com and received it within 3 days. I really like it, nice and sleek and runs great! Very quiet.

The Lawn Hog is an Electric push mower, so it's a little hard to push sometimes. The Lawn Hog is a suitable lawn mower for any sized lawn. As my front and backyards are fairly small. But I brought the Lawn Hog along to help mow a friend's lawn that was much bigger. It'll work rain or shine, but be careful because it is electrically powered.

Having used it for about a year now it has given me top service. My only real gripe about it is that you need an extension cord to power it. It is a bit of a hassle to keep the cord out of the cutting path but eventually you'll get used to it.

All in all I'd give the B&D MM875 a 4/5. A good reliable product. I just wish it didn't have to be tethered to an outlet.

Time To Try Electric
by: Carl Smyth

I have recently made the transition from a gas mower to electric, and the device I chose for the task is the Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog. It is a 19 inch, 12 amp electric mower with a rear mulching bag. The mower itself is by no means massive, so for large yards this model may not be the best choice (they do offer wider, more powerful models). It is also munch more lightweight than a standard gas mower, but still feels solid when in use.

It is heavy enough to keep traction with the ground; but light enough that it isn't laborious to push around. The fact it has a cord may be a turnoff at first, but the larger the lawn the less of a problem it is. (I live in a town called Perrysburg in Ohio, we have a medium sized lawn and have had no troubles with it) The range of cutting is pretty standard, you can cut from 1 1/4 inches to 3 3/4 inches with an adjustable lever.

The bag doesn't clog easy, but fills up a little fast to my taste. I couldn't find a larger bag for sale either. I bought the mower on Amazon. Shipping was fast and friendly with no issues, and I got a very good price on it. Overall, after about 1 month of use this year and 3 months from the end of the summer until winter, I am extremely satisfied. The cut is always great, and never having to worry about refueling is a very welcome change. The cord has never posed a problem to the mower and even in a few accidental run-overs has not cut it. There is no problems hitting small debris, and it operates fine even if your yard isn't very level.

I am very satisfied with the product and would recommend it to anyone looking to get a little more green with their lawn care habits. Black and Decker did it right with this one.

My MM875 Is Lightweight And Quiet
by: Maggie Michalec

Living in the Mid-Atlantic region, in Annapolis, Maryland. I have to cut my grass at least 15-20 times during the warm months. That being said I've gotten my hands on quite a reliable and durable lawn mower to service my needs. I own a Black and Decker MM875 Lawn Hog. It's an electric mower, so I don't have to change the oil in it and it runs like a dream.

I keep it in the garage so it isn't exposed to the elements and has started right up every time I've needed to use it. I only have a few complaints in regards to it.

Firstly, I've noticed a small amount of debris somehow making its way into the mowers engine, and I've also had a few issues, since this mower must be plugged in, with being able to reach where I'd like to be mowing so it has a few drawbacks.

For the upside my Black and Decker mower is extremely lightweight which I like as I have a rather large yard. It is also quiet, and as most of us know lawn mowers are generally loud and a bit on the annoying side -- not the case with this one.

I bought my lawn mower in the summer of 2010. I bought it offline via Sears. I would venture to say the best application of this lawn mower is for smaller yards that can be cut in less than a half hour and would highly recommended storing indoors when not in use if this is possible in your situation.

I do enjoy having an eco-friendly lawn mower which has made me feel a bit better about my overall pollutants going into the environment. As I said earlier this has been a good lawn mower and has served me well for quite some time now. I've never once regretted my purchase.

Power cord issues(?)
by: Mark Pierce

The extension cord I use sometimes slips out of the mower socket. This is normally not a problem, as the mower just turns off until it is plugged back in. It was a problem this time though when the power cord arced to the mower while in a half-plugged in state. I think this is why I had to replace the mower brushes.

A second issue is the power cord may no longer be functional after the arcing event. I am speculating that there is now some electrical resistance to the cord. So, when my just repaired mower stopped working after ten minutes of use, I tried another extension cord and threw away the cord that had previously arced.

So far, so good. I am not optimistic that this mower is going to work for all of a second year. I hope I am wrong.
