I bought the Toro e-Cycler 20360 mower from Home Depot earlier this year and I have been using it regularly all season. So far I am pretty happy with it for the most part. It was rated as the best cordless electric lawn mower, so I thought, with the idea of going green and saving some money on gas, that I would give it a shot.
I live in a small suburb of Dayton, OH on a .34 acre lot, and I use it basically just to cut grass and mulch occasionally. On the positive side of things, I have been impressed with how quiet the mower is and with its ability to cut evenly. My friend has the same mower and he complains about the battery all the time, but I haven’t had any trouble with the battery running out, and I will go out and cut both the front and back yards at the same time, usually taking about an hour and a half or so.
Perhaps for a larger yard this mower would not be as effective, but for my small property, it gets the job done. If I had to list some negatives about this machine I would start with the weight.
This mower is significantly heavier than my last, gas-powered mower, and it takes significantly more effort to cut my lawn now than it did before. That said, I like to stay fit, so I consider it part of my workout.
Also, I have noticed that it does not bag grass very well, and it clogs when the bag is less than half full. I don’t typically bag grass, but when I do bag grass again, I will probably pull out the old gas mower because this one is such a hassle.
The last thing I don’t like about this mower is that the mower is fairly expensive and I am not sure that it is worth the additional cost, especially with the inability to bag.
I have enjoyed the mower and if it lasts it will probably pay off in gas money eventually, not to mention the added benefit to the environment, but I am not sure that I would be a repeat customer on this particular line of mowers. It is probably best for smaller, suburban yards that don’t require a lot of grass-bagging or detailed cutting.
