Troy Bilt 21-Inch Push Mower

by Francisco Burns
(Harrisonburg, Virginia)

I currently own a Troy-Bilt 21" Push Mower, and I couldn’t be happier with it. I recently bought it from my local Lowe’s Home Improvement in Harrisonburg, Virginia for about $200 and it has been very pleasant to use. I’ve had the mower for about 8 months, and I have very few complaints about it. The bag is huge, and I can usually get away emptying it once or twice when I cut about a half-acre of grass. It really dices grass and even the occasional pile of leaves quite well.

I would recommend it for most suburban home owners, but those with yards larger than an acre should consider a more heavy duty lawnmower, perhaps a ride-on. It’s fairly light and thus maneuverable in tight corners, like the spaces around mailboxes and fence corners. On hills, the low weight really pays off. While my neighbor has a ride-on John Deere that I borrowed for the last few weeks of Fall, I still prefer this mower. I appreciate the exercise I get pushing a standard mower, even though this one requires little effort to use.

The blade adjustment is simple and easy to use, the wide blade path makes mowing quick, and it starts reliably. I haven’t had the opportunity to use it in colder conditions, but the push primer seems easy enough to use.

The one complaint I have with this mower is the side chute. I rarely cut my grass without the bag, but the first time I tried my right leg was immediately bathed in grass clippings. If you prefer going bagless when you mow, I would recommend looking into a different mower. The engine is pretty frugal on gas, but still has enough punch to glide through rough patched. If you have a smaller, relatively flat yard to take care of, this mower should suit your needs and then some.

Troy Bilt 3in1 Mower - Not Self Propelled
by: Louis Lopez

I bought the Troy Bilt 21" 3in1 mower one year ago at a Lowe's Home Improvement store in Pensacola, FL where I reside. The Troy Bilt mower was extremely easy to assemble, and came with a pre measured amount of oil to put in the engine.

The 21" 3in1 mower can be used as a rear bagger, mulcher, or side discharge. Transitioning between modes is relatively easy, as the bag attaches and detaches simply.

I use the Troy to mow a small lawn, about 100 x 100ft. I always use the mower in mulch mode, and have had no problems with it. It has an easy start feature, which allows the mower to be started without priming. It always starts first pull.

The 3in1 mower has worked very well for me, and is relatively lightweight, since it is not self propelled. Thus, I have no problem lifting it into and out of a pickup truck, and my wife has no problem pushing it.

The Troy Bilt push mower seems to have plenty of power and doesn't get too bogged down in tall grass. The only potential problem I see is that the height adjustment system for the wheels is made of plastic, and may be a weak point under heavy use.

However, the height adjustment system is very easy to use, and the user only needs to move a handle on one side to raise or lower both axles at the same time. The push handle, frame and wheels all seem very sturdy. The bright red paint is powder coated and has not flaked at all, and has a very glossy finish to it.

The overall noise level of the mower is about average for mowers of comparable size. It runs smooth with little vibration. Overall, a very decent mower for the price.

Brilliant Ex-Display Bargain Troy Bilt Mower
by: Barbara Keeling

I have a standard red Troy Bilt push mower minus the leaf bag I bought at Lowe's about 2 years ago. I bought this one as is; a display model that had been sitting in front of my local Lowe's store. It did not have the bag with it. I chose to buy it 'as is' for a great deal and at the end of the summer season the price was exceptionally great for it as well.

I took it home and proceeded to mow my grass. I have over and acre and a quarter of property. I usually only mow about half of an acre of this property.

The first month of mowing I used it for chopping fall leaves. My yard is full of pecan and oak leaves at the end of the summer. I find it much easier to chop them rather than rake over and over. I love this mower! It does a very fine job of both mowing the grass and chopping leaves and small twigs as well.

As long as I keep the spark plug changed once a year and change the oil in it, I have had no problems but for one. After mowing leaves with it for a while I began to notice it wouldn't start. I would pull and pull the cord, check the oil, gas and it still wouldn't start. I then checked the spark plug. Still had a problem getting it to start. I looked at the air filter on it. I found it to be exceptionally dirty and full of debris. I cleaned the filter real good and put it back in and pulled the cord and viola! It worked beautifully again. I mowed a couple of more times with it to find it wouldn't start again. Found much to my dismay once again it was the filter.

For the money you can't beat a basic push mower from Troy Bilt. These are dependable for chopping and mowing grass as well in a small to large yard. The only problem I have had with mine to date is the problem with filter catching lots of debris and then the mower doesn't want to start.
